Tax Guidelines

Thank you for contributing to Georgia Student Scholarship Organization, more commonly referred to as GaSSO.  Your participation ensures that you continue to have a choice where your tax dollars go and to have a voice in providing quality educational opportunities for our K-12 students.

The following State of Georgia Tax Information is provided for your reference and is not to be taken as Tax Advice.  Georgia Student Scholarship Organization strongly encourages you to consult your Tax Advisor or accountant for official tax guidance.

Your contribution qualifies you for the Georgia Qualified Education Expense Credit.  This tax credit can be claimed on your Georgia Individual Income Tax Form 500 electronic tax document.

Electronic Filing

Electronic Filing is mandatory for taxpayers claiming this credit. Individual taxpayers that electronically file their tax return do not have to submit Form IT-QEE-SSO1. Form IT-QEE-SSO1 shall be maintained by the taxpayer and made available upon request by the Commissioner.  For additional information, please click on the following Link: GA Qualified Education Expense Tax Credit

Electronic Filing Software: The Georgia Department of Revenue provides an approved list of Tax Filing software.  You can find the software vendor list here:  State of GA Approved Tax Software Vendors

State of Georgia Tax Documents

Form IT-QEE-SSO1: This tax document is provided to you by Georgia Student Scholarship Organization and confirms your contribution. Retain a copy of this document for your records for use as needed.

Form IT-QEE-TP2: This tax document is used to compute the income tax credit for qualified education expenses.  You can find a copy of this document at the following location:  IT-QEE-TP2 Tax Document  Tax Filing software that includes an electronic version of this document as satisfies the filing requirement.  Please consult your tax advisor for additional information on the allowable tax credits for your tax filing status.

Form 500 – This tax document is the State of Georgia Individual Income Tax Return Document.  This document can be found at the following location:  Georgia Individual Income Tax Form 500  The State of Georgia requires that this form must be filed electronically to take advantage of the Georgia Qualified Education Expense Credit. Georgia Student Scholarship Organization strongly encourages you to consult your tax advisor or electronic tax processor to ensure that you are achieving the maximum benefit of your tax credit.
